False Color with Kate

Reaching back to one of my sessions with Kate back in 2020. This is one of those shots I wasn’t sure was all “that”. Not because of Kate (I mean look at her!) but I wasn’t thrilled with the color/contrast/feel of the shot. After a few minutes of editing, however, I think I may have turned it around. A little color grading and selective contrast adjustments, and now I feel like this shot speaks volumes.

Available Light with Alison

Alison is back today with this shot from our recent available light photo walk in downtown Nashville. This shot taken near the Schermerhorn is lit using the sun bouncing from a nearby sign giving this shot a “lit” look without the need for fill flash or a handheld reflector.

Available Light Only

The beautiful Alison Baughman from our available light photo walk earlier this year. The goal during this shoot was using only available light including sunlight bouncing off of walls, windows, etc. Here Alison is lit by the sun reflecting off the “Bridge Building” behind me and to my right. We were at the stadium side of the river by the pedestrian bridge in this shot.

Alison in the Alley

Another favorite from my Sunday photowalk with Alison Baughman. This alley is located on the 400 block of Broadway in downtown Nashville. During most of the day this spot is pretty dark but we happened to be walking by at just the right time to catch this space filled with some great light. The building across the street is what is providing the light in front of Alison here while the light peaking over the top of the buildings behind her is acting as a hair light. No reflectors or other modifiers used on this one, just the available, ambient light.

Headshot of the Week! | 1-06-2020

This first Headshot of the Week! for 2020 is a look back into the past. This image of Ann is from 2017 and it’s nice look at what has changed, and what remains the same in my headshot shooting. The crop is tighter and the post processing is a bit different but the engagement with the viewer has remained the same. I believe that capturing that engagement is the most important..
